Tuesday Cheap Date + Homemade Pita Bread

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I consider Wednesday the start of the week being over… and it makes me start freaking out about all the things I want to do that didn’t get done.

Towards the end of my workday yesterday, a really bad headache hit me and got worse by minute. I started feeling crabby and then felt bad for being crabby, so I ate Cheetos (one handful after another)… Then I decided to go to the grocery store after work in the hopes of feeling better after some veggie purchases. This did not help because most of the vegetables looked ugly. I settled on buying the few pretty things I found: bananas, avocadoes, carrots, broccoli, spinach, and beets.

As soon as I got home, I crashed on the couch and fell into a deep sleep for over an hour. When I woke up, my head still hurt but I really wanted to go on the bike ride and Frisbee fun that DFJ and I planned on doing the night before. My nice boyfriend got our bikes set up and ready to go, so I changed into play clothes, struggled my darn ponytail through a loop in the back of my helmet, and we hopped on our bikes and headed to our favorite park.

Biking uphill in the wind is crazy and I’m glad we didn’t have too far to go. When we started playing, I was so bad at catching the Frisbee because I was running away from it instead of trying to catch. That thing flying towards me seemed like an invitation for bruised shins or broken fingers. I eventually got the hang of it and learned to prepare myself for the Frisbee coming and pretty soon I was getting better at catching it. This was a way more exciting workout than just going to a class at the gym or running on the treadmill. Another fun and very cheap date night!

Did I mention that my headache disappeared the minute my legs started pedaling? Playing outdoors is the best medicine for headaches!

When we got home, we took on our pita bread making project. DFJ prepared the dough beforehand so it had beautifully risen by the time we got home. We followed all the directions from my Make the Bread, Buy the Butter book, but for some reason the pitas didn’t turn out the way they should.

They turned into puffy footballs:

Or overbaked pita breads. The only reason why these ones are flat is because DFJ paddled them to
death.

The pitas tasted great (regardless of the shape they turned into) and I served it with some lentils with beets, a yogurt dip concoction, feta cheese, brie and pear slices, and an Italian sausage (not in the pictures). Everything was devoured in front of a Netflix movie. It was a pretty awesome night!

Has anyone ever made homemade pita bread? If so, do you have an explanation for what went wrong here? Thank you!
